Feels Manish Tripathi, whose line of caricatures on mess surrounding the upcoming games, Work In Progress, is up for display
THERE's nothing that Tamil superstar Rajni 'kan't' do. And the same goes for people who believe in last minute preparations for everything from exams to shaadi and yes, Commonwealth Games because everything in India ends well, even if it has had a miserable start. Around the same philosophy Manish Tripathi is now showcasing satirical caricatures based on the CWG drama. His works are a must-see for anyone who hasn't giggled for long. Vaanar Sena
Pun intended
"Ho jaayega keeps us going. Agar aap apni beti ki shaadi me generator hire karna bhool jaate hai to end me koi na koi padosi aapko apna generator de hi dega. You don't need to feel helpless because in our country jugaad always works. So what if it's Commonwealth Games? We can host several such events with ease," assures the young designer who also doubles up as a caricature artist. The exhibition, which will see a grand edition in the first week of September, is a silent protest against the mess created by those who first brought the games to the country and then turned it into a 'joke'. Adds the Lucknow lad: "As a common man, I'm hurt because what (CWG) could have been a matter of pride is now an embarrassment."
Satire, but positive
"When Lord Ram couldn't cross the sea, his vaanar sena made a bridge over it so that the Lord and his army can cross the sea. Miracles do happen and Kalmadi saheb just needs to be patient. CWG bhi ho jaayega," he says with a quirky smile. The exhibition, a part of which is currently on display, will have 70 black and white caricatures on the same theme.
The artist, whou00a0 designs apparel with desipan, has used gateway and bond sheet as the base and used rotring (a very fine nibbed pen) and photography software Adobe Photoshop to create the collection. "I intend to be sarcastic yet witty. My creations aren't pessimistic and demeaning but yes as a free man I'm expressing my reaction. Kuch log bol ke react karte hai, main paint kar ke react karta hu," he says. All the works will be up for sale but the prices are not fixed yet. Reasons the NIFT graduate, "I'm a full-time designer who's a caricature artist. But my friends feel that the time has come to take this hobby seriously. My friends will decide the price tags, I'll just paint," signs off the artist.
