Learn to create funky stuff out of simple household objects and waste in a jiffy in a workshop ahead of the World Environment Day
Designer and stylist Omi Gurung likes to live in a world where bottle caps turn into funky photo frames, buttons become colourful earrings and food containers pose as pretty planters.
Ideas like this using simple knick knacks and everyday objects, which we often dismiss as waste, form the world of Gurung.
A former design student, Gurung decided to extend his creativity into creating something not only funky but also useful. He says, "Working with art and craft comes naturally to me.
But with waste I can not only be creative but also make something productive and do my bit for the environment.
Gurung, who shapes ice cream sticks and cups into penholders, bottle caps into earrings and key chains, scrap jute and cotton into bags and mobile holders and rope jewellery, conducts workshops for corporates and others where he teaches them how to turn waste into cool stuff.
He is also willing to conduct workshops for a small group of people.
He has a two pronged aim behind doing these workshops, "Apart from the creativity that usually comes through in these workshops, this is a great way for busy professionals to de-stress.
And does Gurung practice what he preaches? Apparently yes. He has said no to plastic for the last couple of years and refrains from using it in any form in his life.
Gurung plans to tie up with NGOs soon and hold an exhibition cum sale for the public.
