Bandra's Steak House introduces an all-new Chinese menu. WHAT's ON dropped in to find out if the East matches up to the West at this suburban meatpacking joint Tshing Hai Fried Rice with Mix Veg with Mushroom and Babycorn
Whether your steak needs a prawn, paneer or potato buddy, or not, is not the question. Somehow most patrons are allergic to specialised restaurants, therefore owners try to whip up all cuisines Italian, Indian, Chinese, Global even at a steak house. The city's first-ever steak house that goes by the same name has introduced an all-new Chinese menu, extended its Continental offerings, along with the initial comprehensive steak menu and coastal food varieties.
The usual suspects: Three Treasure Vegetable, Crispy Thread Chicken, String Paneer, Black Bean Chicken, Buddha's Delight, Fish/Prawn in choice of sauce, along with 10-odd other Chinese recipes that may have invariably seen, heard of or tried-and-tested at other Asian eatouts make up the offerings at this one, along with a variety of appetisers, rice and noodles. As we waited for our order, we discovered to our surprise that a non open-air joint like this one has also introduced hukkahs. The whiff rising from the lemon and mint hukkah from tables around us was suffocating. But, the Crispy Thread Chicken (Rs 170) made us forget our grouse; the chicken was tender and the quantity, sufficient. The Tshing Hai Potato (Rs 90) had a distinct celery flavour.
After debating whether to call for rice or noodles for main course, the waiter quipped with a suggestion, "Tshing Hai Fried Rice half noodles half rice." A portion of Mix Vegetable with Baby Corn and Mushroom (Rs 145) went well with the rice-noodle medley.
Steak House also has Thai curries on its menu. Complete your meal with a classic Chinese dessert u2014 Honey Noodles with ice cream.
We liked: That the food was not oily and the portions were generous. Meal for two: Rs 400
