In a major ceasefire violation after a gap of few months, Pakistani troops fired throughout the night at Indian posts in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, leaving a soldier injured.
A defence spokesman said on Saturday that Pakistani troops fired between 1500 to 2000 rounds at the Indian posts in Kamalkote area of Uri sector between 10 pm and 3 am.
Lance Naik Prakash Singh of 10 JAK rifles was injured in the firing. He said the firing from across the border was unprovoked. Indian troops returned the fire but used small arms fire, the spokesman said.
India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire on the borders of the two countries in 2003.

Officials believe that the firing was resorted to by Pakistani troops to provide cover to militants to infiltrate into this side.
Three militants were killed in a fierce gunbattle still going on in Drangyari area in frontier district of Kupwara. The encounter broke out yesterday.
India has been voicing concern over the ceasefire violation on the border from time to time.
Indian officials have said that the ceasefire has been violated for 58 times since it came into effect in November 2003. There were 34 incidents of ceasefire violation on the LoC last year.
