Summers in Delhi bring a double whammy for denizens. If you have a car, it's easier to get a licence than a parking space (that's irrespective of the weather). On the other hand, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees and beyond, leaving your vehicle's air-conditioned comfort is a perspiring thought.

But things have now changed, in some parts of the city. The Delhi Transport Corporation has started a bus service in Lutyens' Delhi, from this morning, set to benefit visitors and daily office-goers. Now park your car at India Gate and get a free ride on an air-conditioned bus, to any destination on north or south block.

The bus service is the first of its kind in the city. It covers commuting to all major government offices in the vicinity.

Officials say, the bus service will not only reduce the problem of parking in the area, but will also help in improving the ambient air quality. Besides, it will go a long way in reducing the traffic congestion in the area.
"We are introducing four air-conditioned buses from India Gate to various central government offices in the Luytens' zone. There will be a fifteen-minute frequency on two routes carved out for now. Two buses will run on each route," said the official.

The bus service will start everyday at 8:30 am and will terminate at 6:00 pm.
"To start with, commuters will not have to pay anything. However, it's on a trial basis. We will review the operation after one month. this should help in reducing traffic congestion in the area," said the official.
The project is a tie-up between the National Building Constructions Company (NBCC) and the DTC.

Don't miss the bus!

First route: C-hexagon, Akbar Road, Maulana Azad Road, Rafi Marg, Red Cross Road, Imtiaz Khan Road, Gurdwara Rakabganj Road, Pandit Pant Marg, and north block. The buses will come back by the same route. The total length of the route will be 7 km.
Second route: Rajendra Prasad Road, Rafi Marg, Sunehari Marg, K Kamraj Marg, and south block roundabout. The length will be 6 km.
