Staying in a paying guest accommodation or private hostel in the Capital will become a costly affair for DU students; rents are expected to go up by around 15 to 20 per cent
You have the marks to make it to your favourite college in Delhi University. Good news. But the bad news is, you may still have to sweat it out for the perfect accomodation near your college.
This year as more students are expected to troop into the university, landlords offering paying guest and private hostel accommodations are all set to increase their rents.

Cashing in on this, landlords are planning to hike rents by around 15 to 20 per cent.
Vinod Manchanda, a property dealer from north Delhi, said, "In another 10-15 days the rates are going to shoot up by almost Rs 2,000 to 3,000 depending upon the location and size of the flat.
Most of the landlords are waiting for the final admission process to get over to earn maximum profit."
"Students were paying Rs 4,000 for a flat with one bedroom, a hall and a kitchen (BHK).

Now, the cost for the same is expected to reach around Rs 5,000. Rent for two BHK and three BHK flats have also risen somewhere between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000," said Manchanda.
Most students prefer to stay near their colleges and thus, will be forced to pay higher rents.
Naveen Jain of Jain Properties said, "The average cost of a paying guest accommodation in areas near DU like Hudson Lane, Mukherjee Nagar, Outram Lines and Vijay Nagar will see a huge hike.
However, there are many private hostels in areas like Model Town 2 and Model Town 3 which will not drill a hole in students' pockets."

DU lacks adequate hostel facilities. The colleges which have hostels offer rooms strictly on the basis of merit.

Almost 60 per cent of the total number of outstation students fail to get a hostel on the campus.
Nearly 60,000 students from outside Delhi apply to different colleges every year.

Rajeev Mishra, a student from Bihar, will camp in the city for the month-long admission process.
"I have secured 94 per cent marks and I am confident of getting into a good college.
But I may not make it to the hostel list. So, my next priority is to get a good and affordable accommodation in a nearby locality. This is the toughest job," he said.
The serach becomes tougher for girls.
