Mekhri Circle, that leads to Bangalore International Airport (BIAL) and is one of the city's busiest roads, is fast becoming a threat to pedestrians. This is because authorities haven't bothered to put zebra crossings or subways wherever required. People have to wait for a long time to cross the road from one side to the other, and that too they do it at their own risk.

There are many such roads in the city where pedestrians have to struggle to cross the road, while putting their lives at stake -- Bellary Road is one such road. Despite the fact that there are many schools and colleges on either side of this road, and hundreds of students have to cross the road to board a bus. But still, there is no zebra crossing to cross the road safely.

Geetha Prakash who works at a private firm said, "I board the bus at Mekhri Circle everyday to go to work in Yelahanka. While crossing the road I go and stand next to others who are trying to cross the road for safety. Once we get a chance to cross the road, we have to run as the vehicles move very fast."

Traffic Expert M N Sreehari said, "While constructing these new roads, neither NH or state authorities gave any importance to pedestrians. They should consider the fact that nearly 52 per of road fatalities are pedestrians. The city must have highrise pedestrian crossings clearly painted with white."
BBMP officials were not available for comment.
