The three European girls, who were out for a stroll at Aksa Beach with their three male friends from the western suburbs, were caught by a police patrol team at 3.30 am on Thursday.

The policemen spotted the six of them lounging on boats moored at the beach, taking pictures of themselves and clicking frames of the beach.

The policemen said they were left wondering what the youngsters were up to on the desolate beach at that unearthly hour. The group of six, all in their 20s, was quickly hauled to the Malwani police station for enquiries.

The foreigners -- Bryndis Helgadotir, Kalrin Stephendotir and Faney -- had come to India on a tourist visa. Their male friends -- Kunal Tolani, Rohit Bharadwaj and Nirmal Mishra -- who hail from affluent families, were driving them around in a black Innova which had a New Delhi registration number.

Unsafe for women

At Malwani police station, the three foreigners who were skimpily dressed, were seen giggling and jabbering incessantly.

The police said they feared for the safety of the three women as the vicinity is not known to be too safe for women, especially at night.

They told the police that had come for a casual stroll and had nothing up their sleeve.

One of the boys told MiD DAY that, the girls were their friends, not relatives. They refused to be photographed and did not even want pictures of their car taken.

Nothing fishy

The police said they had taken down details of the girls' foreign address, passports and visas and had noted the
boys' addresses, should they need to summon them for further enquiry.

All six were released after initial enquiries.

A policeman, who was on night duty, told MiD DAY that they had not found anything suspicious about the pictures taken by the youngsters, nor did they sense anything amiss about their nocturnal visit to the beach.
