MiD Day witnessed a dramatic chase by Pune Constable Nitin Pawar on a bike yesterday as he tried to stop an unruly truck driver.

Barely a fortnight after Nooriya Haveliwala rammed her car into a police jeep leaving an assistant sub-inspector and biker dead and four policemen seriously injured in Mumbai, MiD Day witnessed a dramatic chase by Pune Constable Nitin Pawar on a bike yesterday as he tried to stop an unruly truck driver.

The truck had entered a no-entry while going towards Khadki from Sancheti Hospital bridge and was hurtling towards Khadki check post at more than 80 kmph.

When the truck driver did not pay heed to the police's warnings asking him to stop, PSI H D Shitole directed constable Pawar to chase him. Within a minute, Pawar asked a passing bike rider named Viraj Shiekh to stop and rode pillion. The duo chased the unruly driver till Khadki check post, one and a half kilometres away.

The 15-minute chase was full of suspense as the driver, Abbas Kasbe, kept accelerating, endangering Pawar and Shiekh's lives.

The truck was finally stopped before the check post and the driver was brought back to Sancheti Chowk. PSI Shitole said Kasbe will be booked under the several sections of the Motor Vehicle Act like 184, 158, 17(1), 173 and 132(1) for rash driving, not possessing valid documents and for not paying heed to police warnings.
