Those living in the Majestic area should now think twice before stepping out of their homes early morning for their daily dose of fresh air.

As per the recent findings, the air pollution level start in the area starts rising from 4 am and crosses the national pollution average in just two hours.

The air in the neighbourhoodu00a0 contains several harmful gases in dangerous quantities.


AS Sadashivaiah, chairman of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), said, "Because of bus and railway stations, the pollution level in the area remain high throughout the year.

The city and outstation bus services start at 5 am. Besides, around 25 to 30 trains pass through the railway station during the same time. Hence, pollution level crosses the national safety mark by 6 am itself. he said.

According to a study conducted by KSPCB, the air in the area contains Respirable Suspended Particulate and other harmful gases like sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide as NO2 and carbon mono-oxide, which can cause respiratory disorders in those inhabiting the area.
