Prannoy Roy gets excellence award in journalism

Media personality and head of a private news channel, Prannoy Roy, has been selected for the Thoppil Gopalakrishnan memorial award for excellence in journalism instituted by Kerala-based Media Trust.


Media personality and head of a private news channel, Prannoy Roy, has been selected for the Thoppil Gopalakrishnan memorial award for excellence in journalism instituted by Kerala-based Media Trust.

Roy was chosen for the award by a six-member jury headed by Kerala Education Minister M A Baby for his outstanding contribution to Indian journalism, Trust spokesperson said here today.

"Roy is a role model for journalism and he has upheld ethical values and secular outlook in coverage of events including the recent Mumbai terorr attack", the jury noted.

The award, instituted in memory of Thoppil Gopalakrishnan, former editor of Malayalam daily 'Janayugam', carries Rs 25,000 and citation. Parvathy Menon of 'The Hindu' and Sebastian D'souza of 'Mumbai Mirror' have been chosen for Special Jury awards.

Menon was selected for expose of the sexual assault on a nun in Kandhamal district in Orissa during the attack on tribal Christians and D'souza for his pictures of Mumbai terror attack. They would be presented with Rs 15,000 each and citations. The awards would be presented at a function at Kollam later this month.
