Police register case of negligence, family suspects foul play
Taking a dip in a Jacuzzi seems like a rather harmless thing to do. So then what killed 33-year-old Tekchand Sharma? The Faridabad real estate dealer was found in an unconscious state in the hot tub at Atrium Hotel in Surajkund. Sharma was a member of the hotel and a regular at the gym and Jacuzzi facilities.
"We found him unconscious in the Jacuzzi and rushed him to Batra Hospital in Delhi, but doctors declared him brought dead. We tried to inform his family but we don't have the numbers. So we informed his friends," said the hotel staff.
But Tekchand's relatives are alleging foul play in the case. "My brother was a member of the hotel and he often goes there. But the hotel administration doesn't have his numbers? They informed us hours after his death. There is some foul play in this case," said Krishna Chand Sharma, brother of the deceased.
"We have lodged an FIR under section 304 (A) of IPC for negligence against the hotel administration and we are waiting for the post-mortem report to find out if there's any foul play," said Ajit Singh, SHO, Surajkund, Faridabad.
Friends of the deceased, who are themselves members at the hotel, alleged it was a case of negligence.
"I am also a member at the hotel and I use the gym and Jacuzzi here. There must be an attendant outside the Jacuzzi. Why was the area isolated? The hotel staffers called me instead of calling the family members.
They didn't even have the phone number of Tekchand's home. I even spoke to the doctors at Batra Hospital and they said that if primary treatment had been given to Tekchand, they might have been able to save him. But there is no such facility at the hotel," said Umesh Bhatia, a friend of the deceased.
While the hotel administration denied all allegations saying that the deceased was a heart patient and he might have suffered a cardiac arrest.
