Student Body threatens hunger strike if university does not take measures to improve answer paper evaluation system in 15 days.
CAN a student who got a score of zero receive 50 marks after re-evaluation, or a student who was absent for an examination be the second highest scorer in his class for that subject?
It is possible if the examiner is attached to the University of Pune, allege students of the Bhartiya Krantikari Sanghatna.

Formed four months ago by law students, the organisation has maintained a database of cases to prove the callousness of UoP in paper correction.
Alleging that despite receiving crores of rupees for paper correction, the UoP did sub-standard work, the students have written a letter to the vice-chancellor demanding reforms in the paper correction system. The students have given a 15-day period to the vice-chancellor to take 'corrective measures' including formation of a committee to punish errant examiners. They have threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike if their demands are not met.
Siddharth Sharma, member of the organisation said the revaluation results should be made available to students 15 days prior to next exams.
"If a student has failed in a paper and applies for revaluation, then his results should be given to him at least
15 days prior to the next exam. This gives him some time to study. Last time, in April, results of revaluation came a day prior to exams which meant many students failed again as they had no time to study. This time most exams start in the first week of October, so we have asked the university to declare the results by September 15," he said.
Other demands include appointing more examiners and keeping a tab on their quality of work.
"We have details of funds received by the exam department which runs into crores. These funds are meant
just for correcting and evaluating answer sheets.
We also have records to prove that one professor cleared 10 stacks of answer sheets, which is almost
100 papers, in a single day.
If one person does the job of 10, then quality will be affected. We want them to ensure more attention is given to paper correction as one mistake can cost a student his career," said Vikram Sonde, first year LLB student at ILS Law College.
