It was her first day of school and four-year-old Sonu was excited to share it with her mother. But the day that was supposed to be a day of celebration turned out to be day of mourning for girl, who was in a state of shock after seeing her mother killed in road accident in Pune.
The deceased, identified as Nisha Nilesh Wadekar (32), a resident of Yashwantnagar near Talegaon Station in Pune, was knocked down by a dumper at Talegoan-Chakan road on Monday around 10.30 am while on her way to pick up her daughter from school.
Police head constable Sunil Babar has registered a case against the dumper bearing number (MH-16-B-3544) driver Mahendrakumar Shamal Sharma (40), who hails from Rajasthan, with Talegaon Dabhade police station which falls under Pune rural police jurisdiction. A case has been filed under the relevant sections of Indian Penal Code for rash and negligence driving and also slapped him with additional charges under The Motor Vehicle Act.
Senior Inspector Vasant Babar of Talegaon police station said, "Nisha is a housewife and her four-year-daughter Sonu was studying in Talegoan's pre-primary school. Nisha had drop her daughter in school on her Activa bearing number (MH14-BQ-8715) on Monday morning around 8 am and today being the first day, school was going to close down at 11 am. Nisha was so excited about her own daughter's first day at school that she left home around 10.20 am."
He added, "Nisha was just 100 meters far from her daughter's school but a dumper driver Sharma who was driving the vehicle rashly dashed into Nisha's bike from behind due to which she lost control and fell down. After the incident the dumper driver tried to escape but the local residents nab him and handed him over to us. The dumper was carrying construction material and was coming to city from Rajasthan."
