The water cut imposed by the PMC has made entrepreneur Archana Devar an even busier woman. The resident of Lapis Lazuli Society in Koregaon Park is busy recycling water for her own domestic consumption. She said that her society is already recycling water for flushing and garden purposes in an attempt to cope with the water shortage.
Nadakumar Khatawkar, chairman of Sun Paradise near Sinhagad Road said, "Everyday, we are forced to order 4-5 tankers for Rs 4,000 to 5,000." Ulka Sadalkar, whose company is into portable sanitation and recycling water, suggested that societies should begin rainwater harvesting to beat the water cut. "Other than this, every individual should utilise water efficiently while bathing and washing utensils," he added.
Surprisingly, Devar believes that in a way, it is good that the water cut has been imposed. "Unless we face a major calamity, we will not learn the importance of water. We must face the truth about how much water we are wasting."
