It is expected to catapult Pune into the league of international trade exhibition destinations like Hannover Messe in Germany, Birmingham in Britain and Osaka in Japan.

The Pune Pimpri Chinchwad's New Township Development Authority (PCNTDA) handed over a hundred acres of land for the project, which was conceptualised by the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) in 2003, near Moshi, 7 km from the proposed International Airport at Chakan.

Anant Sardeshmukh, the additional director general of MCCIA, told MiD DAY the project will subsequently be expanded to more than 100 acres.

"We have invited interested parties for the project, which will be run on public-private partnership basis. Some companies in Europe have indicated interest. The exhibition centre will be completed in three to four years.
