Like most teenyboppers, they thought they'd survive on love and fresh air. Until life's realities left them disillusioned.
Ajinkya (16) and Manisha (13) ufffd not their real names ufffd eloped and lived together for a month. Unable to bear Ajinkya's sexual overtures, Manisha accused him of rape.
Let's run away"The two met two years back," said Senior PI (Satara City) SP Jadhav. "On June 22, Manisha's mother spotted them together and warned Ajinkya to keep away from Manisha. Two days later, Manisha met Ajinkya and told him to marry her," said Jadhav.
Ajinkya, who plied a rickshaw part time, met the vehicle owner and quietly drove to Pune with Manisha.
"For a month, they stayedu00a0 at a friend's house in Ravet. He took up a job at a hotel," said Jadhav. "Though his friends told them to return home, they did not listen."
Take me home"Ajinkya's sexual advances unnerved Manisha who confided in Ajinkya's friend's wife," said Jadhav. "On July 17, Manisha was packed off home. Her mother took her to the police station and lodged a rape complaint."
The Satara police located Ajinkya at the hotel where he worked. The rickshaw owner identified him. "We have taken him into custody," said Constable Vasant Lokhande.
