Spelling fresh trouble for Sanjay Dutt, the authorities of Yerawada Central Jail have decided to oppose home-cooked food permitted to the Bollywood superstar.
The jail authorities have filed a petition in the Special TADA Court seeking to discontinue the home-cooked food services for Dutt, currently serving his sentence in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.
The official said the prison has invoked the jail manual, which has a provision of serving home-cooked food only to undertrials on medical grounds.
Speaking to MiD DAY, superintendent Yerawada Central Jail Yogesh Desai said, "As per the jail manuals, no outside food or any other facilities are now allowed inside the jail, and that the convict has to serve his term as a common prisoner."
He said that as now Dutt is convict, the jail manual applies to him as well.
He said, "We have taken objection on the food that comes for him from outside, and the facility of a fan that he has asked for. We have urged the court to pass order where we can serve the actor food that's made in jail."
As far as soap and hair oil is concerned, jail authorities said that they have allowed him to use the items he had brought from home. "As soon as it gets over, he'll have to from the jail canteen," a staffer said.
A jail official, on condition of anonymity, said that a daily newspaper too is being provided to the actor. "His beard has been grown significantly, and he just remains inside his cell and keeps himself busy with reading papers and religious books. Besides, he does not mix with anybody in the jail," he said.
Meantime, the actor's sister Priya Dutt came to meet him in the jail yesterday around 11.45 am. She met and spoke to her brother for a good 45 minutes.u00a0
