The RDX explosives found in Palghar district in October may have links with the banned terror outfit Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and also with the low intensity blasts in Pune in 2014, allegedly carried out by SIMI members.
Recently, state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) investigators came across crucial developments linking the RDX seizure at Palghar with the Pune blasts outside Faraskhana and Vishrambaug police stations in Pune on July 10, 2014, in which five were injured, sources said.
ATS had suspected the involvement of SIMI members, Zakir Hussein and Mahboob Guddu, in the conspiracy along with their accomplices, Mohammad Ejazuddin and Mohammad Aslam. These four were part of a group of seven who along with other SIMI groups escaped from Khandwa jail in 2013 and carried out several terror attacks across the nation.
SIMI members, while hiding in Satara, had stolen a bike from the district court premises on June 25, 2014 and later used it to plant the bomb in the parking lot outside Pune police stations.
ATS officials remained tight-lipped, and have not come on record on the possible link between Palghar RDX seizure and Pune blast.
