Resident doctors of Ram Manohar Lohia went on a flash strike at around 11pm on Sunday after a doctor on duty was allegedly beaten up by the relative of a patient

Resident doctors of Ram Manohar Lohia went on a flash strike at around 11pm on Sunday after a doctor on duty was allegedly beaten up by the relative of a patient. All emergency services at the hospital were stopped following the incident.

"A man who had come to the hospital to get his wife treated entered into an argument with the doctor on duty alleging that the patient was not getting proper attention. As doctors tried to reason with him, he claimed that he was related to some minister and started using abusive language, threatening the doctor of dire consequences. Later, he came with 15-20 of his accomplices and started beating up the doctor mercilessly.

A security guard and two other doctors who tried to intervene were also injured. The group also broke window panes, flower pots and even damaged a few cars in the hospital compound. Following this, doctors here have gone on strike," said Jitender Gupta, an orthopaedic surgeon posted at the hospital.

According to sources, a person named Yogesh had come to the hospital with his wife and younger brother Pankaj. The woman had a knee problem and needed medical attention. Pankaj claims there was an argument with the doctor on duty and he misbehaved with them. Meanwhile the doctors said that both Yogesh and Pankaj were drunk. The doctors have lodged a complaint with the local police and also demanded adequate security.
