Takes close look at methods of intelligence gathering and training at academy
The Maharashtra Intelligence Academy (MIA) had a surprise visitor yesterday.
Home Minister R R Patil visited the premises of SRPF Unit 2 at Ramtekdi in Hadapsar area to take a close look at methods of intelligence gathering and training methods used at the academy.
Under wraps
The officials at MIA kept the Home Minister's visit to MIA under wraps and even barred the media from entering its premises.
Patil was inside the academy for an hour and is believed to have discussed the various methods of intelligence
gathering and sharing and means to improve it. The discussion was held behind closed doors.
Patil avoided the media waiting outside by choosing to board his vehicle inside the campus itself.
"Nothing can be said about this visit as it was a confidential one," said MIA Director Rajender Singh.
Sources inside said a passing out function was held for 30 State Intelligence Officers just two days ago. They would be inducted into the services shortly.
The MIA was set up in 2009. Initially, serving police officers were selected for three years deputation to undergo training.
But now 50 per cent of the officers are deputed directly as State Intelligence Officers. They undergo training at the academy.
The officers here are trained in various methods of intelligence gathering and changing technology. Patil was updated on these training sessions.
