The organisation is in talks with National Informatics Centre for a website upgrade and mobile apps to offer user-friendly facilities
With e-governance trending amongst administrative bodies, Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) is soon to join the wagon. On March 7, Pune RTO officer Jitendra Patil met with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) team to discuss the development of e-services at the transport office. The meeting focused on offering efficient and user-friendly services to the public.
Paving the way: Citizens believe e-governance will help streamline the process and save time
"There are thousands of applications, renewals and other paper related work done by the RTO daily and people have to stand in long queues. To take a break from all this, we want to have an e-governance user-friendly system. One is our website upgrade, for which we have requested NIC to develop a software to help citizens download forms, apply for new licences or auto permit renewals online. People can check the status of their applications and also get to know about the choice of numbers for new vehicles," said Patil.
"Also today everyone has a mobile phone with the latest technology. We want to have mobile apps where one can get information about the RTO, various application procedures and fees and check its status. This is a work in progress and it will take time to launch. We have to see the technical aspects and once it is approved, we will be implementing it," he added.
Pune RTO has two offices - one near Sangamwadi Bridge and the other at Phullenagar. On daily basis, both offices receive a footfall of more than 5,000 customers. The approximate cash collected at these offices through various fees and fines is Rs 60 lakh to Rs 1 crore. Customers who do not want to wait for long hours to get their work done go to agents who sometime cheat and misguide.
The upgrade and e-governance system will certainly make life easier for the public and will help save time.
