the railway authorities are installing 12 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) at five railway stations.
These ticket vending machines will be installed at Pune, Shivaji Nagar, Akurdi, Chinchwad, and Talegaon stations.
"These machines will be used for dispensing platform tickets and unreserved journey tickets," said Ashok Malhotra, commercial manager of railway, Pune region. He added that it will help to reduce the strain on the ticket windows and will be of great help for commuters duringu00a0 peak hours.
Malhotra said that the railway board has granted permission for the installation of 300 automatic vending machines on various railway stations in the western region.
Meanwhile, Harsha Shah, president of Railway Pravasi Group, suggested that ATVMs should be installed at several other stations as well. "Stations like Thane, Kalyan and Panvel should also be included as these places have a good influx of commuters coming from Pune. Installing ATVMs at these stations will be of help to commuters."
