Jaipur: The Rajasthan government will distribute free sanitary napkins to adolescent girls in the state, it was announced here on Tuesday.
"A decision to this effect was taken at a cabinet meeting held here on Tuesday. We plan free distribution of sanitary napkins to about 20 lakh girls in the age group 13-19 years studying in class 6 to 12 under Rajasthan Kishori Swasthya Evum Swachhata Karyakram," state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Rathore told media persons here.
Among other decisions taken at the cabinet meeting here, chaired by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, was approval of the draft of the Rajasthan Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Ordinance 2015, which aims at uniformity in the elections of these societies.
Rathore said: "We, in the cabinet meeting, have decided to modify the Rajasthan Cooperative Societies Act, 2001. These amendments would result in time-bound elections of about 33,000 cooperative societies in the state in one go."
Public Works Department Minister Younis Khan, who was also present during the media briefing, pointed out that the cabinet proposed and passed a resolution thanking Union Minister of Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for his announcement to provide assistance worth Rs.10,000 crore to Rajasthan for expansion of road network and extension of transport services.
"With this assistance, we will link about 1,500 km of roads in the border areas with national highways by spending about Rs.4,500 crore."
Besides this, Jaipur would be among 10 major cities in the country selected for Intelligent Traffic System.
