Yoga Guru Ramdev was yesterday admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) in a hospital in Dehradun when his health deteriorated on the seventh day of his fast. Doctors said his condition was "stable" after he was administered glucose. "Ramdev's liver functions are slightly derailed but his kidney is functioning normally. He is conscious. He is being kept in a separate room and is being constantly monitored. His BP is 110/78 and pulse rate is 60," said Dr SL Jethani, medical superintendent of Himalayan Hospital. "He is talking and there is no problem. His health is improving," he added.

The 46-year-old yoga exponent was admitted to the ICU immediately after he was brought to the hospital where two teams of doctors examined him, Dehradun SSP GS Martolia said. He was shifted at 4pm to the Dehradun hospital, 25 km from Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar, where he had been fasting after being externed from Delhi's Ramlila ground.
Uttarakhand health DG, Dr Asha Mathur said Ramdev was hospitalised as his health was deteriorating. There was commotion at the Patanjali ashram as some of Ramdev's supporters protested the Haridwar district administration's move to transfer him to a hospital. Some protestors even clashed with the police when the yoga guru was being carried on a stretcher. However, it was resolved immediately with the intervention of ashram authorities. Two medical teams comprising neuro specialists, critical care experts, nephrologists and cardiologists had been formed, he said. Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravishankar said his condition was "very critical in the morning but now his health has improved. I talked to him and requested him to call off the agitation.
