Car dealer immediately returns advance amount after customer sends him a legal notice
It was only after IT professional Sumit Patnaik sent a legal notice in the second week of March to First Choice, a second hand car dealer near Bavdhan, that they returned the Rs 15,000, he had paid them on February 16 as a five per cent advance towards a Hyundai Getz he planned to buy from them.
Assurance"When I changed my mind about buying the car, the dealer refused to refund the token amount. It was only after my lawyer Asim Sarode served them a legal notice that they agreed, but said I would have to sign a written assurance that they did not owe me anything beyond the Rs 15,000. I did and got my refund," Patnaik said.
However, Satyendra Bhonsale, general manager, First Choice, said, "We were willing to refund the amount, but the customer sent us a legal notice. Patnaik's cheque has arrived from our Mumbai office. All we were demanding is that he drop the charges against us and declare in writing that he has no complaints against us."
