Group Captain S P Anand, undergoing psychiatric treatment, was in the habit of assaulting wife behind closed doors; wife seriously hurt in attack
Neighbours of the retired military officer Group Captain S P Anand (54), who allegedly tried to kill his wife and then committed suicide at Viman Nagar yesterday, said that he used to lock the doors of his bungalow whenever the couple quarrelled.
That is why, the neighbours told this reporter, they could hear heated arguments, but could not do anything to help. "We could hear them screaming practically every day but we could do little to intervene as the man used to lock the front gate," said Gopal Kharpudkar, a neighbour who was among the first to reach the spot at around 11.15 am after Anand hitu00a0 Ruby on her head with a hammer and then jumped to his death from the terrace. Anand reportedly suspected his wife of infidelity.

Milind Phulsundar, a contractor residing in the same area told MiD DAY, "I was passing by on my bike when I saw a woman standing at the gate, yelling for help."
He noticed that Ruby's face was covered in blood as she shouted that her husband had hit her. "When I looked up, I saw the man standing on the terrace wall, some 35 feet above the ground. But he did not look scared.
Instead, he looked like he was in some deep thought. It all happened very quickly. Before we could react and help the woman, the man jumped."
PSI Vasudev Patil, who is investigating the case told MiD DAY, "Residents living nearby told us that the couple had been quarrelling since morning." He added that according to Anand's relatives, he had been undergoing psychological treatment. "We have now come to know that he had missed a couple of appointments with his doctor," he said. Ruby is currently being treated for her head wounds in a city hospital.
