Bangalore's top dance company (we can vouch for that) are back for a fifth year running with some moves set to get your emotions running high
You hear that tune and you just can't help yourself, your toe starts to tap, your head starts to bob and you just want to dance!
Tarantismo means 'the uncontrollable desire to dance', which is the perfect name for a dance company who cover every style of movement from Kathak to Kontemporary.
This weekend, the Tarantismo Creative Dance Company return to the stage with their latest show -- Unblocked: Emotions in Motion. The overriding theme of Unblocked is to explore the human emotions through the various forms of dance that this young group of dancers excels in.
The whole performance is intended to be an emotional journey, choreographed by Arati Punwani-Sunawala who started the dance company five years ago. Arati describing her latest work says, "The pieces all have one thing in common; they are all based on feelings that we all experience and instinctive basic reactions. No holding back -- straight from our hearts!'
If you think you've heard of Arati Punwani-Sunawala, that's because she shot to national fame as one of the four finalists on the reality dance show Dance Dance. She is no stranger to commercial theatre and she has also choreographed performances for Tarzan, Westside Story, and Let's Talk About Love, as well as acting in various plays including The Vagina Monologues.
Arati started Tarantismo five years ago with like-minded dance-obsessed members ranging from 17 to 27 years old. The talented troupe are all trained in Kathak, Belly Dancing, Bollywood, Hip Hop, Jazz and Indian Contemporary dance and believe that movement is the earliest form of expression.
A pioneer in new dance and fitness trends, Tarantismo was the first dance company to introduce both Belly Dancing and Trampoline Fitness in Bangalore.
Previous Tarantismo performances have revolved around the number seven, traffic, the human senses and the socially poignant. Unblocked has been five months in the making, fine-tuning the performances to make sure that each piece touches an emotional nerve. So get ready to smile, laugh and most of all toe-tap your way through another brilliant performance.
