The shop, Ambika Traders, is a wholesale store of wheat and large sums of money are often kept in the locker. They took away around Rs 15 lakh from the shop. When a staff of the shop resisted the robbers thrashed him and fled from the shop on their bikes," said a police officer.
Local businessmen expressed their anger against the alleged inaction of the police by protesting on the streets. "The owner of the shop was not there and the robbers had information about the huge amount of cash kept in the safe. This indicates the involvement of some insider. We have registered an FIR," the officer added.
"This was the first big incident in this area. The market was crowded but still the robbers managed to escape. There is no barricading on the roads and there wasn't any policeman in the area at that time," said Ashok, a local shopkeeper.
