A recent review of the traffic infrastructure in the city by the traffic branch revealed that over 1,200 barricades are lying damaged and rusting on the roadside at various parts of the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vishwas Pandhare has directed all traffic divisions in the city as well as Pimpri-Chinchwad to collect these barricades and drop them off at the traffic branch office to be repaired and reused.
"After my order, all the traffic divisions in the city started tracking down the broken barricades that were lying on the roadside and brought them to the traffic branch headquarters in the police commissionerate. Till now, we have received as many as 1,200 broken barricades," said Pandhare.
He said he personally inspected the condition of the barricades and found several repairable. "We have given the contract to a fabrication firm and repair work is underway on the premises of the traffic branch, where workers are giving new shape to these barricades and making them ready for use," Pandhare said.
Police Inspector (Admin-istration) Vijay Palsule said that the city would shortly see the repaired barricades.
"These barricades were lying on the roadside in disrepair for a long time. This is the first time we have undertaken such extensive repair works, after which more then 1,000 barricades will be added to the city's traffic infrastructure," Palsule said.
