Stone thrown
"At around 11.30 pm on Tuesday, my watchman informed me that the sandalwood tree had fallen down. At first, I thought it could be because of the drizzle and wind. But as the watchman approached the spot, a stone was hurled at him. He told me there could be more people," said Bhosale, who then informed the police.
"Since the thieves had not carried the sandalwood with them, the police were sure they would come back."
When my guard noticed movements again at 3 am, he blew the whistle. The man tried to escape in the darkness. The police van tried to chase him and heard a loud thud inside Thakkar's bungalow.
"My guard went inside that bungalow and saw the thief lying still." According to the Bun Garden police, the thief had burn injuries on his shoulder. He was declared dead at Sassoon hospital. The police are now on the lookout for other suspects.
