Though BJP's P C Mohan has won from Bangalore Central, H T Sangliana is determined to collect his certificate at the Mount Carmel College here, evidently to show that as a retired police officer, he has the dignity to take defeat in his stride. This is in contrast to C K Jaffer Sharief, who went home the moment he realised that he is losing from Bangalore North.
Our photographer caught PC Mohan and Sangliana sitting next to each other. While Mohan was all smiles and receiving one call after another on his mobile, nobody called the tight-lipped Sangliana.
When counting started earlier today, the situation was reversed because Sangliana, who was leading, was positively beaming. But as the time passed, the smile was replaced by a frown as he started losing.
Ironically, Sangliana could be said to be losing because he supported Sonia Gandhi on the nuclear deal and switched from the BJP to the Congress.
In return, Sonia Gandhi has promised to field him from Bangalore Central, while the JDS fielded Zameer Ahmed Khan. As a result, the minority vote got split, and the victory was almost handed to BJP on a platter.
