Based on a tip off from a junior training officer at the San Jose Industrial Training Institute, Shimoga, the Lokayukta officials caught N D Alagundi, the chairman of the examination committe committee red handed.

Alagundi is also the principal of the Government ITI in Gadag and has been appointed by the government as the chairman of the local board of examinations for ITIs. Alagundi is said to have visited the San Jose Institute during an examination recently. He directed the junior training officer present, Irfan Baig to collect Rs 1,800 from students to ensure their passing. Alagundi also assured Baig that he would award good marks to those who paid him. He asked Baig to collect Rs 30,600 from all the 17 students that was later to be given to him at Hotel Samrat Ashok, where he was staying. Baig informed the Lokayukta officials who then caught Alagundi red handed while receiving cash from Baig. The Lokayukta also raided Sri Sai Industrial Training Institute in Dharwad and arrested three junior instructors and an office boy who were answering students' exam scripts.
