The fact was revealed when Kurla Government Railway Police busted a syndicate involved in supplying firearms and phoney licences

Kurla Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested seven people from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and seized eight rifles from them. Cops say the group dispensed guns and bogus licences to security guards, bouncers and bodyguards from the city who wanted higher salaries from their employers.

On Tuesday, Kurla GRP found two gun licences and some live bullets in the bag of one Bharat Singh at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus during a routine check. Cops also found fake rubber stamps of the arms magistrate, Gopalganj, Bihar from the accused and learnt about six associates who helped him manufacture these phoney gun licences. "They would charge between Rs 25,000 and Rs 50,000 for a licence and also sold rifles.

A person with a firearms licence has more chances of landing a job guarding a bank or a celebrity. As the process for getting a licence is tough, many people take the easy way out and acquire bogus ones," said Shivaji Dhumal, senior police inspector of Kurla GRP.

Cops then raided a place in Sabhaji Nagar, Kurla yesterday and arrested six others - Umashankar Singh, Amarinder Singh, Umashankar Singh jr, Parmanand Singh, Anilkumar Singh and Arjunkumar Singh and recovered eight 12-bore rifles, 27 fake gun licences and seven live cartridges from the accused.

"All of them have been remanded in police custody till September 17. There's an urgent need to verify the licences of all the security guards in the city who carry weapons," said GRP commissioner Prabhat Kumar. u00a0 u00a0 u00a0
