The Deputy Commissioner of Police of Sahebganj district of Jharkhand has been arrested for not appointing a peon as ordered by the court, police said on Wednesday.
The Jharkhand High Court had on Tuesday directed Sahebganj Superintendent of Police (SP) to arrest DCP K Ravi Kumar on charges of contempt of court. Kumar was arrested on Tuesday night. He will be produced in the court on Wednesday.
"The Sahebganj Superintendent of Police has informed the court regarding compliance of order and the Deputy Commissioner has been arrested and will be produced in the court," spokesperson of Jharkhand Police SN Pradhan said.
In June 2007, the high court had directed Kumar to appoint a peon within three months. However, he did not do so even after two years of the order.
