The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex on Monday opened higher over 74 points on emergence of buying by investors and funds in heavy weight stocks available at an attractive low level.
The 30-share index, which had gained 230.42 points in the previous session, advanced further by 74.45 points or 0.46 per cent to 16,227.04 points in the first five minutes of trading. The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also rose by 18.75 points or 0.38 per cent to 4845.60 points.
Marketmen said trading activity was directionless as most of the Asian markets were for the Lunar New Year.
