The conventional way of doing it is to get your hands on everything you can at one go and bolt. But two thieves decided to be more methodical and stole from a flat occupied by three South Koreans over a 12-day stretch before disappearing.

To gain their objective, they had to take employment as servants and work away at gaining the confidence of their South Korean employers for over a year.

The police said a laptop and Rs 6 lakh was the loss suffered by the South Koreans. The thefts occurred early this month at the residence of Kong Zuang (30), a South Korean living with his two business partners and fellow countrymen, K K Kim and M S Sisonm, at the Diamond Park Society on Park Street in Wakad.

The police have registered a case against the two suspects, identified as Sanju Narjinang (23) and Vikram (19), both from Amribad village in West Bengal.

"Zuang is a contractor and deals in building industrial shades at factory sites. He and his partners moved to Wakad a year-and-half ago," Police Inspector Prabhakar Pawar said. "The crooks were recommended to Zuang by a lady who worked at a motel near his old office in Dehu Road."

"The two suspects were employed for more than a year by the foreigners. The theft took place over a duration of 12 days, between September 30 and October 12," Pawar said. "They stole Rs 6 lakh and a laptop worth Rs 20,000 and a few clothes, all belonging to the South Koreans."

Pawar added that a complaint had been registered under Sections 381 of the Indian Penal Code at the Hinjewadi police station against the two suspects. "We still do not have any information on their hideout, but the search is on," Pawar said.
