A construction labourer in Daund taluka of Pune district allegedly sexually assaulted a seven-year-old girl. The incident happened around 6.30 pm when the girl was returning home from school.
According to the girl's father Arjun Barkunda, his daughter was returning from school in a haggard condition."When we saw her, we were shocked, her face was bleeding and swollen. She had strangulation marks on her neck," he said.
The parents were shocked that when the girl returned to school after the assault to seek help, she was sent home. "After the assault the girl went back to school but the headmaster claims that he didn't realise something was wrong," said Nanasaheb Dadasaheb Khadakan, a member of the school committee, who later reprimanded the principal and accompanied the girl to Sassoon Hospital for a medical examination. "About 200 metres from the school, a bungalow is being built and four labourers had come to work there. My daughter identified him,"said Barkunda. She was undergoing a check-up at the time of going to press.
