As protests demanding justice for the 23 year-old gang-rape victim intensified in the capital, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit said that her government and the Centre will work to make a new law, which will act "as a deterrent."
"We have to find a solution and bring about change in the society. Apart from the new law, we also plan to start a huge awareness campaign," she said while addressing the media.
Meanwhile, widespread protests continue in the capital, and across the country, against the gang rape. On Saturday, hundreds of protestors gathered at India Gate and near the Rashtrapati Bhavan demanding tougher punishment for rapists and safety for women. The government has appealed the protesters to calm down and not resort to violence.
