If you want to grab eyeballs at the next party, flaunt Bangalore-based designer Rachana Reddy's collection of trendy wooden clutches In the heart of Bangalore, a group of artisans are painstakingly hand-crafting a block of teakwood to make a unique accessory -- a wooden clutch. Once they finish carving and engraving designs, they fill up the clutch with silk. These clutches are the brainchild of 24 year-old Rachana Reddy, who gave up her Engineering course to pursue Accessory Design at Cordwainers College in UK. Two months back, she launched her own label -- Rachana Reddy Collections.
The Padma clutch,The Krishna clutch
Her debut collection, Lotus Sutra, features clutches with traditional accents and Indian motifs. It includes the Padma clutch, with the carving of a lotus and the Krishna clutch, which has the blue, golden and green hues of a peacock feather. The Paisley clutch has mango-shaped carving while the Jali clutch is inspired by the trellis used to support plants. If Retro is your poison, check out her Disco Trippy clutches in gold, brown and black strips.
"I love accessories and used to make bags as a hobby. When I took the plunge, I was optimistic as the designer accessories scene was nascent and there was plenty of opportunity," she says, admitting that she steers clear of superfluous embellishments to focus on the detailing. Rachana is also keen on designing footwear and jewellery. But for now, she's readying her next collection to be showcased at the Lakme Fashion Week Summer / Resort 2011 in Mumbai this March.
