Agra: Six girls from West Bengal were rescued from a brothel in this Uttar Pradesh city, police said Friday.

Acting on a complaint filed by a Mumbai NGO, Rescue Foundation, Senior Superintendent of Police Shalabh Mathur raided the brothel late Thursday.

Police said combined forces from at least two police stations raided the Kashmiri Bazar area and found that two brothels were locked, while the third had six girls said to have been brought from West Bengal recently.

The rescued girls will be sent to Nari Niketan, police official Manisha Singh said.

The red light area comprises Maal Ka Bazar, Seo Ka Bazar and Kashmiri Bazar in the heart of the city.

Agra has been the transit point of flesh traders from across the country. "Even Mumbai dance bars are regularly supplied girls from Agra region," said social activist Naresh Paras.
