With the arrest of Kamlesh Khairnar (37) and two of his relatives, the Ulhasnagar Crime Branch officials have solved the Damyanti Dattatray Khairnar murder case. A former assistant sub-inspector with the Thane rural police, Damyanti (56), was found murdered at her residence on April 17. She was a widow and lived alone. According to the police, Kamlesh, Damyanti's son, killed her over her relationship with a retired sub-inspector. The trio has been booked under Sections 302, 452, 394 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Bhagwan Yashod and Senior Inspector Machhindra Chavhan of the Crime Branch informed the media about the trio's arrest yesterday. The other two killers have been identified as Sonu Bachhav alias Chetan (22) and Sandip Jadhav (21).
According to the police, during initial investigations, constables Ganesh Vaghmode and Appa Wankhede received a tip-off that two of the accused were hiding in Nashik. Based on this information a police team rushed to Nashik and arrested Chetan and Sandip from Nandin Shivar and Jaikheda village, respectively. Kamlesh, the key conspirator, was arrested from Ulhasnagar. He confessed to the crime during interrogation.
Son faked robbery attempt Kamlesh said that he was fed up of his mother's relationship and had moved out of the house for the same reason. He said that he had tried persuading Damyanti to end the relationship, but to no avail. On Tuesday, the day of Damyanti's murder, Kamlesh had informed her that he would be coming home to pick up his dinner and asked her to keep the main door ajar.
The trio reached Damyanti's residence at 11.30 pm, and killed her. Hoping to mislead the police, the trio ransacked the house, creating an atmosphere of a robbery and the motive behind Damyanti's murder. u00a0
