Sonali Kulkarni's two Marathi films Gandha and Gabhri Cha Paus have been selected for the competition section at PIFF. The actress, in a tete-a-tete, speaks about her career and some of her forthcoming projects.
Tell us about your character in Gandha?
I play Milind Soman's wife in the film who's quite passionate, emotional and extremely stylish.
You are seen in lots of Marathi films now. Is it purely out of passion?u00a0
I have worked in films made in Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, English and even Italian. Every region has its own cinematic language, which I appreciate and love to excel in. Also, it feels proud to have got an opportunity to work in different languages. It's just the language of cinema that matters.
You aren't heard of much since quite some time now?
I was busy with projects like Jhalak Dikhlaja and Fear Factor Khatron Ke Khiladi. Also, some of my films didn't work out and got stuck after Taxi No 9211. I have paid the price of being an actor, yet I have been tolerant.
What projects are you working on?
I am shooting for Focus and Love Tadka, which is an out and out comedy. I am also doing a film titled The Man with Sunny Deol and Rock Shock with Lucky Ali.
How do you react when people carp about your style quotient?
I'm an actor and have to donu00a0 a variety of appearances. Such comments don't deflate me as I know that the media has always loved my work and me. Also, my passion is my work, which will never go outdated.
Bollywood has several new actresses coming in every day. Do you see them as a threat?
New comers have always been there. And for me, they aren't a threat at all as different people have different personalities and one's personality has its shade of performance. Also, I appreciate the kind of focus and determination these new girls have.
