Delhi police may not have had much success in cracking the Jama Masjid terrorist attack case, but the probe is proving to have other benefits. On Thursday the Special Cell arrested a contract killer from the notorious Anwar Thakur gang.

The team of ACP Bhisham Singh arrested Taslim Ahmed (41), alias Don from Bhajanpura area of northeast Delhi. The accused is a proclaimed offender and is wanted in 23 different cases in many areas of the Capital.

"The accused is a notorious extortionist and a professional contract killer of Anwar Thaur gang.

He was assigned to murder a businessman from Lahori Gate. A notorious extortionist Gopal Krishna who is booked under MCOCA is in Tihar jail for murdering a businessman named Abhay Yadav. After murdering him for extortion, Gopal Krishna was arrested and identified by the brother of the deceased, Ajay Yadav.

Gopal Krishan met Anwar Thakur in jail and offered him money for murdering Ajay Yadav, as he is an eyewitness. Anwar then assigned his shooter Taslim to do this contract killing but the money had not been transferred yet so he didn't shoot the target and we arrested him," confirmed a police officer.

Taslim has cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion and arms act."We have arrested the accused under section 41.1 of CRPC and have informed the concerned police stations about him,a the officer added.

Local connection

Different teams of the Special Cell of Delhi police are hunting for the Jama Masjid case perpetrators and are arresting and interrogating every possible suspect in the city. It was clearly indicated in the case that local elements are involved. So the cops are hunting for each and every history-sheeter and small or big criminal in the Capital.

What happend on september 19

On that day, two gunmen on a motorcycle fired at a tourist bus near Gate 3 of the Jama Masjid in old Delhi and injured two Taiwanese tourists. The incident provoked fears about security for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Delhi. About three hours later a car parked approximately 150 metres from the spot caught fire, apparently caused by a minor blast.
Two bike-borne terrorists opened fire at a stationary tourist bus purportedly carrying a TV crew from Taiwan at 11:24 pm, near Gate 3 of Jama Masjid. An explosive-laden device was planted in a Maruti 800 car, parked near a transformer near the mosque.
The car had approximately 20 litres of fuel in its tank, which would have cause considerable damage if it had succeeded in exploding, but bomb timers failed and it did not go off.
There were two victims of the shootout, Zeseweiu (27) and Chiang (28), both Taiwanese citizens.
Zeseweiu head was grazed by a bullet while trying to escape, while Chiang was shot in the abdomen and had to be operated on.
