Under fire from various quarters on fake pilot licence issue, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has postponed the special pilot examination which was to be conducted in March. A senior DGCA official told MiD DAY that the special examination will now be conducted next month.

Talking to MiD DAY, a senior official of Central Examination Organisation(CEO)u00a0 claimed that the postponement had nothing to do with the fake licence issue. "It was merely a routine delay in conduct of examination," said the official.

Official sources however told MiD DAY that the regulator did not want any further controversy over the issue, hence the postponement. The civil aviation ministry has ordered a thorough verification of licences of all the pilots in the country. About 4,000 commanders and co-pilots are working with different airlines in the country at present.

The aviation regulator has already announced that by June it would conduct all the examinations online to avoid any wrongdoings or manipulation. To further ensure that aspiring pilots do not indulge in forging their marksheets in connivance with the CEO, results will now be published on website, the official added. Meanwhile, the meeting between DGCA officials and those of 40 odd flying schools across the country over the fake licence issue is expected to take place today in New Delhi.
