Enforcement cameras have been relocated from earlier points by traffic police to keep tabs on speeding drivers and traffic offenders to reduce accidents; scheduled to be functional in a week's time
Bangaloreans breaking traffic rules or speeding down roads on the outskirts of the city are bound to be surprised if they receive a summons or challan, when they did not even spot a policeman in the area.
Enforcement cameras were initially installed within the city to monitor traffic offences such as signal-jumping, stop-line crossing and breaking lane discipline.
All seeing eye: Enforcement cameras have been placed on the city
roads to book cases for overspeeding and other traffic violations.

New locations
Now cameras installed at Kuvempu Circle on Ring Road near BEL, Kamaraj Road, Hennur Cross, Bellary road near Canadian School and Sadashivanagar police station have been relocated to Mysore Road near Bangalore University, Hosur road near Kudlu Gate (towards Electronic City), International Airport Road (Bellary road).
One additional camera has been installed on Bellary Road near Bagaluru00a0 Cross near Canadian School. These cameras are scheduled to be functional in a week's time. Five road-embedded sensors attached to enforcement cameras have been relocated to the airport road and police back the move, saying that motorists speed along to the airport leading to several mishaps.
The city traffic police feel that these cameras will be more efficient if placed on outskirts because motorists drive rashly in those areas and the average speed limit within the city is 15 Km per hour.
Traffic experts backed the move by City traffic police placing Enforcement cameras on the city outskirts.
Traffic expert M N Sreehari said, "This is an excellent idea as motorists speed on arterial roads like International Airport road, Hosur road, Tumkur road, Mysore road. In fact, interceptor vehicles should also be positioned on such roads to book speeding drivers, which will create awareness amongst motorists and bring the number of accidents down."
Investigations reveal that most accidents occur because of rash driving and speeding, resulting in loss of control and collisions with other vehicles or stationary objects.
More practical
ACP (Traffic and Security), Praveen Sood said, "The reason for relocating the cameras is because in some places, major projects are underway. The camera at Kuvempu Circle where an underpass is being constructed has been relocated to Hosur Road to avoid damaging it."
Sood also said that vehicles do not overspeed beyond 15 km per hour within city limits because of various reasons and cameras being placed on roads approaching the city from the outskirts will be more practical to book errant drivers, since they travel at high speeds at these points. In 2010, the traffic police booked 74,787 individuals for speeding and 50,634 for dangerous driving.
