Lal Bahadur Singh had a tiff with his girlfriend who resided in the hostel. He reached the hostel, fired in the air and threatened the police officials with his gun before shooting himself to death, they said.
"Singh was a resident of Dholpur district and studied at a polytechnic college in Jaipur's Kotputali area," said an officer, who did not want to be named.
He said the man barged into the hostel in the morning. "As soon as he entered the building around 11.30 am, he started firing in the air.
He had come to see the woman with whom he had a relationship but she had started to ignore him. However, the woman was not in the hostel at the time," said the officer.
Hearing the shots, the panicked hostel inmates rushed out of their rooms and informed the police. Senior cops, including the superintendent of police, rushed to the spot.
"Singh hid himself inside a room in the hostel and kept threatening people not to come closer for nearly two hours. He said that he would kill the cops and then himself," he said.
"Later, the woman also arrived at the hostel. He accused her of ignoring him and then shot himself in the head around 1.30 pm. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital," the cop said.
