Trekkies tell us what they expect from the utopian fantasy which opens tomorrow
The American sci-fi fiction animation series and a creation of Gene Roddenbery, The Star Trek that aired in the late 1960s, is going to be recreate its magic on the big screen this Friday.
This time around you can look out for video game andu00a0 sci fi books.
Down memory lane
Caroline Drewis (27), a technical writer with Zinnov Research and Consultancy, says she used to finish her homework early, when in eighth standard, to catch re-runs of Star Treku00a0 on TV.
"I loved the Prologue music. I loved Captain Kirk and the weird-eyed Spock. It was my first sci-fi watch, and it had me hooked."
What are her expectations from the movie?
"I don't think the new Star Trek will be able to bring back the old charm, as the looks and feel really matters. Nobody can look like Shatner or Nimoy, though I am sure the new star cast will do a real good job. I still remember Spock's lines... 'Fascinating is the word I use for the unexpected'.u00a0 I also still remember Kirk, saying, 'The women in your planet are logical. No other planet in the galaxy can make that claim'. I like that line till date!"
'Keep it simple'
u00a0Shashwat Gupta (32), a techie with APW Presidents Private limited, says, "I always wonder if Star Trek, the TV series, would have held the same appeal to viewers today as it did for us in the pre-reality shows era. I used to love watching Spock. I was fascinated by his weird ears!u00a0 I used to play out the Star Trek episodes with my friends and I remember wanting to always be Spock. About the film, I wonder if they will go overboard with special effects and lose the plot. So I just hope they keep it simple."
Joy Jacob Thomas (35), a commercial pilot, says he expects the 11th film in the series to be a visually rich experience.
"I used to like their triumph over evil each time. My favourite in the series was Spock because of his intelligence and because of his loyalty towards his captain," he says.
Amal E Samuel John (31), a software professional, says, "I saw Star Trek when I was 10 years old. We used to call ourselves Trekkies. I am looking forward to the movie. I still remember the dialogue, 'Beam me up Scotty'. It's part of my happy childhood memories."

Trekkie talk
Bloggers from across the world say what they think of the latest spinoff from the influential TV show....
Mike says: I wasn't even looking forward 2 seeing this movie, I'm not a Star Trek fan, but the movie changed my mindset and I'm looking forward to more movies from this group.

Kristina says: I have never seen a ST episode or film before this one. I could understand everything that was happening during the movie, there is some talk of time travel that was a WEE bit confusing, but other than that, you do not have to be a Trekkie to love this movie. There are some Easter Eggs and certain lines from the TV show or an earlier film that Trekkies will catch, but you won't be lost.
Ron Salon says: I have seen every episode of the show. My father tuned me on to it, starting with re-runs of the original. ST:09 is not the best movie I've seen, but it is one of the better movies I've seen. That's saying a lot. The production value for ST:09 is up there with some of the best. Nearly all of the characters worked, with Urban, Pine, Quinto really shining out, as they should.

Joseph says: Despite enjoying the film I still felt the ending was little erru2026lacking!
I don't see why they couldn't have the remaining original cast quoting the 'Space: the final frontier' speech. Each of the original (surviving) actors could have had a line each. For me, this would have finished the film in the best way possible.
Tony Says: Lots of fun, action, and good characters. Can't wait for more movies from this new crew.
Amanda: I saw the new Star Trek Movie. OMG!! I loved it! I was scared at first, knowing they were using a different cast, okay scared of all choices except for Zachary Quinto as young Spock. All the new cast embodied the personalities of each character. Scotty was great! Zachary as Spock was phenomenal and Karl Urban as Bones was spot on!! (I will actually buy this movie when it comes out on DVD (not bootleg) and add it to my other Star Trek movie collection, I've got them all.
