The state government, which is spending Rs 55 lakh to renovate the exteriors of the Kanteerava studios, has now decided to have the facility completely remodelled on the lines of Hindi film personality Yash Chopra's Yash Raj Films (YRF) studios.

OPENING PURSE STRINGS: Chief Minister B S Yeddiyurappa at a recent programme at the Kanteerava studios. With him is studio chairman Girish Mattennavar. The state plans to spend Rs 4 crore on the studio.

The decision was taken after a delegation, which included Kanteerava studios chairman Girish Mattennavar, MD and actor Shivram and renowned director Rajendra Singh Babu, visited the YRF studios, one of the biggest in the country.

"The studios we have here are pathetic," said Mattennavar. "The Kannada film industry will soon get studios with state-of-the-art facilities. The plan is approved and work will begin by the third week of December."

All new look

In keeping with the aim of making Kanteerava studios a one-stop shop for filmmakers, four new high-end studio floors will be added in the 12-and-half acre complex. The technologies to be set up include soundproof stages with self-levelled Mastek floor. The stages will also have electrical catwalks and 360-degree backgrounds in white, which can be painted according to the art director's wishes.

Besides these things, one floor and a court hall will be completely air-conditioned for the first time in the state.

The state is spending Rs 4 crore on the exercise.

"We will get the same technology that's present in Yash Raj Films studios," added Mattennavar. "Besides this, we will be getting sophisticated green rooms and make-up rooms here, as in Mumbai. It's one of the long-time demands of artists."

Revenue

The state is also eyeing better revenues from the Kanteerava studios, which currently fetches about Rs 2 lakh a month. A five-fold increase is expected by March, when four floors become operational.
