Government officials tell civic body resolution to reconsider removal from service revoked
The plan of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Standing Committee to bring back corrupt deputy auditor Sanjay Kale has been shot down by state government officials, who have revoked the resolution passed in 2004 in this regard.
Kale had taken a bribe from contractor Suresh Pawar of Dhankawadi to return the amount deposited in the PCMC, and was convicted by a special court and sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment in April 2004.
The PCMC had suspended Kale after he was arrested in 1997, however since then the administration had to pay Kale a fixed allowance till he was not removed from service.
A similar incident had happened in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation when some local politicians "conspired" to bring back Sunil Joshi, a senior officer arrested on corruption charges, but the move was withdrawn after criticism from all sectors.
Officer-in-charge Sunil Kothekar of the Town Development department has informed the PCMC administration that the resolution to reconsider Kale's removal has been revoked.
Standing Committee chairman Suman Pawle said she was ignorant of the decision by the state government to revoke the proposal of Kale's removal. Depite repeated attempts, Municipal Commissioner Ashish Sharma was not available for comment.
